Peer Support Specialists deliver recovery-oriented services grounded in lived experience of mental health, substance use, and family caregiving. Peer-delivered services are among the most effective non-clinical interventions for populations that traditional clinical systems have historically underserved. CMPSSs offer practical assistance, mentorship, advocacy, recovery goal-setting support, life skills building, community connection, and system navigation.
HUMANDREAM Workforce Alliance provides end-to-end workforce infrastructure that turns California’s CMPSS certification pipeline into your organization’s operational workforce. We handle candidate recruitment prioritizing lived-experience authenticity, supervised fieldwork coordination that meets CalMHSA and DHCS requirements, post-certification placement into environments where peer voice creates measurable clinical impact, and retention support that addresses the specific burnout risks facing lived-experience workforce.
Traditional workforce systems train, place, and hope people stay employed. The Peer Support Specialists pathway begins with people who may have lived experience of incarceration, behavioral health challenges, substance-use recovery, housing instability, poverty, or other barriers. Instead of asking them to become “job ready” in isolation, PVU surrounds employment preparation with peer support, mentoring, recovery principles, practical training, meaningful paid work, credential opportunities, and a path toward long-term employment or entrepreneurship.

Peer Voices United delivers the Wellness-to-Workforce pathway that trains and prepares Peer Support Specialists across six specialized workforce domains: Justice-Involved Reentry, Restorative Justice, Hoarding Disorder Support, Native Community Peer Support, School-Based Gang and Drug Prevention, and Youth Gang Intervention. PVU brings the lived-experience engagement, wellness supports, supervised service environments, and community-based recruitment pipelines that prepare individuals who have historically faced barriers to employment for careers as credentialed Peer Support Specialists. Through PVU programs including Road Home, Room for Hope, and Hands of Hope, participants move from wellness into structured workforce readiness, gaining the foundation that a HUMANDREAM Workforce Alliance Peer Support Scholar career pathway is built upon.
